Hearing disability
Beyonce (Me) : Good Night, Could you tell me what is your name?
Montia: Good Night, my name is Montia Brown.
Me: Where did you attend um- school? Montia: I attended Tivoli Gardens High School, and further went on to Distinction College.
Me: Ok That’s great! Me: And What are your Hobbies, what do you like to do?
Montia: I like reading and watching television. I do like listening to music too, but umm- however via my disability it is a little challenging, but I do really like challenges.
Me: So, you do like to listen to music, what is your favorite genre of music?
Montia: Well, I prefer gospel, and um country and western songs. Country music I like them.
Me: Okay, have you travelled overseas before?
Montia: Yes, I visited…
Me: Any country in particular
Montia: I visited the United States of America.
Me: Okay
Montia: In particular New York
Me: And do you like New York? Montia: Well, I like but I like it best spring, summer. It’s cold when its winter. But I like it. The people there are more associated. You can talk to them more and they will understand you more, they have organizations you can go to. Really your disability and get assistance even if your not from there your just visiting. So, I really like visiting there.
Me: Okay that’s great. Me: Okay could you tell me what you like to eat?
Montia: I like to eat fish with bammy or festival Me: Do you like ice cream?
Montia: I love ice cream. I like Almond Butter and um fruit basket.
Me: Could you tell me what your disability is or what was your disability. How has it affected your life?
Montia: Okay, My disability is hearing. I have hearing problems in both ears. I don’t hear well, I hear a little now but I could not hear as well as I do growing up. And it was challenging at school and it affected my education and it also affected my education and my personal self-esteem. Being how my fellow school mates treated me even my teacher who know that I had a hearing disability. Treated me as if I could have heard everything she said even from a distance without she letting me see her face so I could read her lips. Sometimes what she said her body language gave something different and I would come to the wrong conclusion of what she is saying to me and would not be treated kind doing that so honestly it affected my education at my school in my early years. Even at work now— ( mumbled noises). When the supervisor or the manager speak to you they are not speaking to you as in they know your disability, but speak to you as if nothing is wrong or sometimes they will be of too much help and make you feel-
