Let’s get Acquainted
Hi, I’m Aaliyah Lunan & this course is a required class for my major which is Writing Literature & Publishing. From this course I hope to develop a greater appreciation of non-fiction writing, and how it can be used in creative combination with digital media and production.
Now let’s talk about the article
The article I’m engaging with is Introduction of The Digital Humanities Moment by Matthew K Gold.
From this article I was able to glean a sense of the presence that the Digital Humanities Movement has built around its expansion in recent years, as well as a taste of the troubles that plague it’s attempts to reform the humanities, and the university and academic systems. There are several perspectives that clash, rival, and pursue endless interrogations and debate on the subject. of what Digital Humanities is, should be, and who is allowed to be a part of this movement. It’s recent explosion into the public eye have begun to stir the pot. Questions of criteria for entry and acceptance rise, how the community engages in debate and conversation, as well as a numerous amount of opinions on how the community should be interacting with formal institutions; and which institutions they should be interacting with.
In attempt to present these perspectives, answer these questions and present a critique of the digital humanities movement, this text as a whole has gathered a number of critical texts from key players throughout the vertical hierarchy of the Digital Humanities community. Through a thorough peer review structure and community effort toward pushing past the growing pains of the community as it transforms and expands, digital humanities are examined bit by bit.
So, What’s The Point? How Does This Relate to LITS 3604 – Creative NonFiction Writing & Digital Media?
As varied as the discussion is about the digital humanities, and as far as its fingers spread into the hierarchies of academia and the arts, LITS 3604 – Creative NonFiction Writing & Digital Media plays an incredible role in adding to this conversation. As practitioners of the humanities ourselves, we are in the very important stage of learning how to incorporate digital elements into the study, and practice of the humanities.
This will form the foundation and the base of the perspectives which we will launch ourselves into the Digital Humanities community. That is quite the noble quest for a course of this nature, and I for one am excited to see just how far this launchpad takes me.
