SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE “CAN INFORMATION BE UNFETTERED”
In the article “Can Information Be Unfettered? Race and the New Digital Humanities Canon” by Amy E. Earhart she speaks about the complex interrelationship between ethnicity and the evolving landscape of digital humanities. The author scrutinizes how digital technologies have the potential to both challenge and perpetuate racial disparities within the academic realm. Earhart claims that while digital humanities can broaden access to information, it also poses the risk of reinforcing pre-existing ethnic biases. The article underscores the significance of addressing these issues within the digital humanities discipline and recommends that scholars remain concious of the ways in which ethnicity intersects with technology and the dissemination of information.

CRITIQUE OF THE ARTICLE

Lack of Concrete Examples: The article could benefit from more concrete examples and case studies to illustrate the specific ways in which digital technologies could perpetuate racial biases or contribute to racial inequalities. Providing real-world instances would make the argument more compelling and actionable.

Balancing Potential with Reality: While the article acknowledges the transformative potential of digital humanities, it tends to emphasize the negative aspects without delving deeply into the positive contributions it can make in addressing racial disparities. A more balanced exploration of both the advantages and disadvantages of digital humanities in relation to race would provide a more comprehensive perspective.

EXPANDING THE ARTICLE

In my opinion the article highlights the importance of the modern day World Wide Web by claiming how accessible it is to any group of people, serving as as a gateway for their voices to be heard. Though evolving, it is very obvious that more and more communities are getting the exposure they want and deserve. While marginal groups are actively ignored and mocked like the LGBT Community, it is still a step in the right direction. Majority of the famous spokepersons you see online are of a caucasian decent and it is obvious they have advantages over other communities, even they can recognize the idea of “white priviledge” and how significant it actually is.

Thank you for reading my evaluation of the article! Have a wonderful day!
