The events of the French Revolution and the Brigand Wars (1794 to 1804) had a profound impact on Saint Lucia. In an effort to maintain their freedom, the Nèg Mawon, brave freedom fighters, waged a guerrilla war against British rule and the reinstatement of slavery. During their short-lived period of liberty, they renamed certain places in Saint Lucia to reflect their revolutionary ideals.

It’s time to remember.
