Me: So you’ve never traveled anywhere else?
Mrs. Lee: To Kingston and Spanish Town.
Me: Ok fair enough, and do you usually need to ask directions when going somewhere new?
Mrs. Lee: No enuh [Pause] mi just guh and if mi lost mi find mi way, mi try mark di road and find mi way back home. Cah if mi ask question mi ago shame, cause most people turn yuh inna ediat when yuh ask dem question.
Me: Ok, so with that being your point of view, have you ever used the app known as Google Maps?
Mrs. Lee: Yes
Me: So what is your experience using Google Maps
Mrs. Lee: [Shrugs] If yuh can read and yuh have sense, yuh will find where yuh going, yuh undastan. If yuh nuh undastan it yuh cook.
Me: So would you say you prefer using google maps to asking directions?
Mrs. Lee: Yeah [Short Pause] Yeah I would
Me: Ok, and is Google Maps accurate trying to find directions in Jamaica?
Mrs. Lee: If it’s on the main, if a inna lane no, mi nuh tink yuh ago find it
Me: Alright, so when traveling somewhere, say for example you’re going to the country. Have you ever needed to ask anybody for directions, and can you give an example of what the directions sounded like?
Mrs. Lee: [Stands] Alright say for instance yuh ask uhm, a question like, yuh just wanna get somewhere and yuh ask a question dem ago tell yuh say “is jus up deh suh [Points in The Distance]. round deh suh, di corna round deh suh [Curves Hands to Depict Bending]. Yuh undastan turn right [Turns Body to The Right], then turn left [Turns Body to the Left], deh head straight [Steps Forward]. You’da turn, turn right, turn left, turn straight yuh still caan find weh yuh a guh. Still caan find where yuh going. [Sits]
