Brainstorm Idea: Jamaican Government Does Not Support Its Culture

How is it that a culture as rich as dancehall isn’t endorsed or supported by the Jamaican government? The genre of dancehall does not only include music, but it also has several areas in the entertainment sector that it is a part of. Whether a DJ, host, selector, investor, promotor, or dancehall artiste, dancehall is a career for many. Other countries endorse and reap the reward of dancehall because corporate Jamaica refuses to collaborate with true dancehall patrons, they deem the genre itself as ‘Ghetto’, not clean cut, or even not mainstream enough. If so, why is it that people who were not born in Jamaica or even reside in Jamaica attach themselves to Jamaica because they see it beneficial to make a career in dancehall? Even more so intriguing, why are other countries’ cultures so influenced by dancehall, and why do they find success with heavy dancehall influence added to their culture?
