“I love the Queen,” Prime Minister Simpson Miller was quoted in the TIME newspaper, 2012. “She’s a beautiful lady…a wise lady and a wonderful lady. But I think time come.”

With every election we believe that the time will finally come to remove the queen from head of state but even the death of the immortal queen is more likely to happen before that. Britain has been “ruling” over our country with so much detachment that we can not even travel to the England as if we were truly her people. As a matter of fact, the Queen has always made it clear that you will not be protected or treated better unless you are from the ‘original’ linage of Britain. It is so strict that even if you are born in her country, even if it is the only home you may have known, if you are the child of an immigrant you will not be considered British, You will not be considered a citizen of her country.

In Jamaica, each political party make false promises during the election period to play on our withering hope of having a fully ‘free’ country. However, we all know that the Caribbean people and other British colonies are more like property for the royals to tell the world “look what I have”. We are not her (the Queen) children who will be loved and nourished. We do not feel defended or looked after. How then are we to feel about the death of an unloving mother?
