Sylvia Wynter's Dream

I thought I did not have a reaction to Queen Elizabeth’s death but when I first heard the news I started singing this jingle that was popular amongst the children especially in primary school. It starts like this, “Queen Elizabeth died last night, she died from a fever, she died from a cold, she died when she was 12 years old…”

Obviously she didn’t die at that age but the jingle is seen as a happy moment and maybe even a joke, and in a similar fashion I could say that’s how I see her “real” death. I’m not feeling any sympathy or sadness; I’m simply not grieving. However,I am extremely saddened by the deaths taking place in Jamaica.

Why is that? Is the queen not a human being?
